Description

Grenadine was originally made from pomegranate pulp, hence its name. In Spain and the Maghreb countries, it is still produced in this way. The drink was introduced to France during the Second Empire. Grenadine syrup was used to treat coughs. The taste of this syrup was so popular that a few years later it began to be served in cafés under the name "grenadine".
